Guarding Your Mind, Heart and Spirit.

Imagine this: You just moved into a beautiful new apartment. It’s perfect—clean, peaceful, and filled with light. Then, one day, someone knocks on your door. You open it to find a stranger holding a dripping trash bag, smiling.

“Hey, can I dump this in your living room?”

Ridiculous, right? No one in their right mind would allow that. But spiritually, many of us do this daily—letting in toxic influences, corrupt conversations, and content that pollutes our souls.

Eve’s Biggest Mistake: Entertaining the Wrong Voice

Eve’s downfall wasn’t just eating the forbidden fruit—it started with listening to the wrong voice. Genesis 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say…?’” The moment she engaged in that conversation, she opened the door to deception.

Like Eve, we often entertain things that should be denied access. We watch movies that twist biblical truth, read books that normalize immorality, and engage in gossip that poisons our relationships. The Bible warns in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’”

So, what are the things we should deny access to?

1. Not All Movies and Books Are For You

Culture tells us that “it’s just entertainment,” but what we consume shapes us. Would you drink poisoned water just because it’s in a fancy bottle? No! Then why let spiritual toxins into your mind?

Consider this: Horror movies like The Conjuring and Hereditary normalize demonic activity, making evil seem like entertainment. Books filled with explicit content, like 50 Shades of Grey, distort God’s design for love and purity. Even fantasy books with occultic themes can desensitize us to witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

Instead, Philippians 4:8 gives us a better filter: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure… think about such things.”

2. Gossip and Slander: The Poison You Don’t See

Ever been in a conversation where someone starts with, “I don’t mean to gossip, but…”? That’s your cue to run! Gossip is a silent killer—it destroys friendships, breeds mistrust, and, worst of all, displeases God. Proverbs 16:28 says, “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”

When someone brings negativity, imagine slamming a spiritual door in their face and saying, “Access denied!” Protect your peace.

3. Social Media: The Subtle Trap

Scrolling through Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter, it’s easy to be influenced without realizing it. Trends normalize things God calls sin. From explicit content to toxic “relationship advice,” social media is full of subtle deceptions. Jesus said in Matthew 6:22, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”

Ask yourself:

Does this content draw me closer to God or further away?

Would I watch this if Jesus were sitting beside me?

If not, access denied!

4. Negative Friendships: Not Everyone Deserves a Key

You don’t have to be friends with everyone. Some people drain you spiritually, pushing you into compromise. Proverbs 13:20 warns, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Jesus loved everyone, but He didn’t give everyone equal access. He had the crowd, the 12 disciples, and then His inner circle (Peter, James, and John). Learn from Him—love people, but be selective about who speaks into your life.

Setting Up Spiritual Boundaries

Filter your content: Choose movies, books, and music that align with God’s truth.

Avoid toxic conversations: If it’s gossip, slander, or negativity, walk away.

Monitor your social media intake: Follow pages that feed your spirit, not your flesh.

Surround yourself with godly influences: Friendships should help, not hinder, your faith.

Final Word: Keep the Door Shut!

Eve made the mistake of allowing the enemy into her mind. You don’t have to do the same. Just because the world accepts something doesn’t mean you should. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

From today, make it your mission: If it corrupts, distracts, or tempts—access denied!

Imagine this: You just moved into a beautiful new apartment.
