A love without questions

The alarm buzzed at 5:45am.

Nina groaned, pressing it off with more force than necessary. It was time to wake up and face the day. Another day. Another routine. Another reminder that she was just… existing.

She lay in bed groaning, wishing—just for once—she could ignore the routine. But there was work to do, bills to pay, expectations to meet. She dragged herself out of bed, staring at her reflection in the bathroom mirror.
Same tired eyes. Same forced smile. Same hollow feeling in her chest.
Life had become a series of checklists—wake up, work, scroll through social media, avoid thinking too much, sleep, repeat. It wasn’t that she was unhappy exactly, but she wasn’t happy either. She just… existed.

She moved through the motions—shower, coffee, work—but the emptiness had grown louder, like an echo in a hollow space. The text from Ethan loomed in her mind’s eye, as though it was on a billboard in right in front of her.

“Hey! Last night was fun, but let’s keep it casual, okay?”

Her stomach twisted. She thought she had learned not to expect more. Nina swallowed the lump in her throat. Of course. Casual. That’s all it ever was. She should’ve been used to it by now—the sweet words, the laughter, the warmth of someone’s arms, only for it all to disappear when things got too real. She had tried to be okay with it. After all, wasn’t this just how the world worked? Love was a game, and she had learned to play it. But deep down, she knew she was losing.

She sat at her work desk that morning, sipping her third cup of coffee, staring at a spreadsheet that meant nothing to her. She was 26, stuck in a job she didn’t care about, floating through relationships that never lasted, and carrying a weight in her chest that she couldn’t explain.

By evening, she found herself driving with no destination, on unfamiliar roads, her heart heavy. She thought just driving around for a while might make her feel a little better.

Was this it? Was this life? Is this how it’s supposed to be? She pondered as she waited at the traffic light. A truck pulled slowly up behind her, and its headlights fell on a sign by the road –

“ARE YOU TIRED? HE IS WAITING WITH OPEN ARMS. SEE YOU SUNDAY BY 9AM

She scoffed and drove off as the lights turned green. She used to believe in God at some point in her life, back when she was a teenager, before life happened, before disappointments piled up like bricks around her heart.
On sunday morning, as she sat on the floor in her bedroom, her day stretched before her meaningless, something stirred in her spirit. The ache in her soul, the loneliness in her bones—it all whispered, GO….. And so, she did.

The Encounter

The moment she stepped into the church, she felt different. Not like she belonged, but like something—someone—had been waiting for her. As the pastor spoke, something inside her cracked. He spoke about love—not the kind that leaves, not the kind that takes and never gives back. But a love that stays, a love that pursues.
“You’ve been searching for love, but love has been searching for you. A love that never fails, never leaves, never demands that you be anything other than who you are. His name is Jesus.” He read from the open Bible and her eyes followed the words on the screen in front of her Romans 8:38-39 KJV
[38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nina held her breath. Could these words actually be true?
Tears burned behind her eyes.

Her walls cracked. It was like water flowing through an icy rivulet: getting into the cracks and breaking it up slowly.

“God sees you. He knows you. And still, He chooses you.”

Tears slid down her cheeks. She had spent years proving she was worthy of love, trying to earn it, trying to be enough. But here was God, saying she didn’t have to.

As the choir sang, she closed her eyes. For the first time in years, she didn’t beg for something. She didn’t try to fill the silence. She just let go.

And then it happened.

A warmth, unlike anything she had ever known, wrapped around her heart. The ice had completely thawed. Not fleeting, not temporary, not conditional.

It was love.

For the first time, she knew she was fully, completely, unshakably loved.

And she wept.

Not because she was broken. But because she was found.

For years, she had been chasing people who only wanted fragments of her when there was a God who had been waiting to give her everything.
She didn’t have to be perfect. She didn’t have to beg to be chosen.
She was already loved. Fully. Completely.
That night, she sat on the floor in her living room, Bible open on her lap, heart pounding as she read:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

She had been running her whole life, trying to find something that was never missing. Love wasn’t something she had to earn. It had been hers all along.
And in that moment, right there in her living room, Nina whispered, “Dear God, I’m done running.” The tears flowed freely as she surrendered and accepted His saving grace. She spent the night in prayer and conversation with God, learning about a love that doesn’t expect her to settle for less or jump through hoops.

The Resolution

As she woke up the next morning, she didn’t just begin a new week;—she walked into a new life. She wasn’t naïve; she knew her struggles wouldn’t disappear overnight. But she made a decision:

She would stop searching for love in places that could never satisfy. Instead, she was going to consciously and deliberately nurture her relationship with God.

She wrote down three things she would do differently:

  1. Seek God first: She would start each day with prayer and Scripture, not social media or unanswered texts.
  2. Set boundaries. No more giving herself away to people who weren’t willing to love her the way God intended.
  3. Find a community. She would surround herself with people who pushed her toward faith, not emptiness.

And slowly, things began to change.

The Transformation

At work, she still sat at the same desk, with the same spreadsheets. But now, instead of feeling lost, she found purpose. She worked with diligence, not just to get through the day but as an offering to God. She learned that to live purposefully, a person must decide to align everything with God’s will and that every aspect of their lives must be an offering of worship to the LORD.

With relationships, she learned to walk away from those who only wanted a piece of her. She no longer settled for empty words and half-hearted affection. Nor did she settle for the world’s definition of love.

She joined a small group at church—women who had been where she was, who reminded her she wasn’t alone. They prayed together, shared their struggles, grew together.

And when loneliness whispered, she no longer reached for temporary comfort. She reached for Him – the one who made an abode in her heart and was never far from her. The number one person rooting for her success.

One evening, Ethan texted again:

“Hey, miss you. Let’s hang out?”

For the first time, she didn’t feel angry. Instead, she prayed, she prayed for Ethan, that he would also come in contact with this love and be changed by it.

She smiled, placed her phone down, and opened her Bible instead.

She had already found what she was looking for – God’s Word that spoke to her 1 John 4:16 “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”

A love that never fails.
